Here's one more dBMcast for 2012 and the first to actually feature some of the soundstick recordings captured at Burning Man 2012. dBMcast #117 features Moontroll of Get Found reporting from the road to Gerlach, and from the exciting moment when one's vehicles leaves pavement and hits the playa, and from the line to get in to the city when a whiteout dust storm stopped all movement. Moontroll is geared towards that once-a-year passage through the Portal to the other side, and his excitement is palpable. Ride shotgun with him as he approaches the Threshold to another world of magic and mystery, a journey with an undulating soundtrack of forward-leaning bass music that touches on electroboogie, dubstep, ambient, world beat, breaks and other styles.
As this mix is about thresholds, portals, journeys and crossings, you'll also hear contributions from Terrence McKenna speaking on UFOs and spirit molecules and a science report on recent NASA searches for elusive portals that spontaneously open and close in the Earth's magnetosphere.

Rites of Passage: Pathways to the Portal

What does the theme Rites of Passage mean to you? Is Burning Man just a big party in the desert? These questions spark the insights and musings of Get Found 3.0 campers as we envision it, manifest it, build it, paint it, pimp it out, feel it, struggle with it, open to it, let go of it and offer it as a gift to all.
The soundtrack for this lucid stream of consciousness is a mid-to-downtempo mix of music from Mimosa, Bassnectar, Eliot Lipp, Burial, Thievery Corporation, Tipper, Pretty Lights, Marty Party, Ooah, Emancipator, Jamie Woon, Russ Liquid Sound and Tycho.
We will pass through the Portal in 6 days! As the Burnal Equinox passes us by, we slip and slide our way down the slope towards another trip to Black Rock City. Burning Man 2011 begins to infiltrate my daily thoughts as I consider what Rites of Passage will rise up to meet me and my merry band of Get Foundlings. Here's a heavy-duty blend of bass music -- dubstep, whomp, glitch-hop, lazer -- to wake us out of our winter slumber and slap us silly in to the spring. This is not your mama's bass -- get ready to be aurally spanked! This is the time of year for cleansing and new growth, and this mix is designed to knock the moss off of your bass chakras as we stumble towards the playa, alone and together.

Sunday Sunrise Set on Robot Heart

Wolf + Lamb spun a set at sunrise on Sunday after the Burn from the Robot Heart soundsystem. A goodly portion of Team Get Found was there in open playa when the sun emerged over the horizon after a long night of dancing, adventuring, kissing, biking and mingling with our fellow Burners. This extended groove was our sexy soundtrack to the new day. Glory be!

Through the Portal

Journey through the Portal and into BRC for Evolution 2010 with Moontroll, Grapnutz, Edubious and the Destination Burning Man crew. The saga opens as the tribe, fresh off the road from the Pacific Northwest and having passed through the gates of their favorite city to the strains of Guns n' Roses, find themselves destitute wanderers in Black Rock City.
After being driven away from their scheduled rendezvous with the temple building crew at Camp Get Lost -- the blaring 24/7 death metal and over-the-top negative vibes from the neighboring Voted Best Camp sent them in to refugee status -- Camp dBM find themselves searching for peace, as well as a spare generator to fuel their dream of a small sound camp to call home.
In this mix you'll hear Telepopmusik, Random Rab, Beats Antique, Baby Mammoth, John Kennedy, Lynx & Janover, G n' R (?!), The Pixes a la Bassnectar, Bluetech, Heyoka and more.

The Tangled Path 2 : Convergence
23/August/09
Convergence: The process by which a similar character evolves independently in two species.
Convergent Evolution: The evolution of species from different taxonomic groups toward a similar form; the development of similar characteristics by taxonomically different organisms.
Burning Man: A great convergence of tribes from all corners of the planet; takes place the week before Labor Day weekend each year in the remote northwest corner of Nevada on a dry lakebed in the Black Rock Desert. The combination of common intention, sleep deprivation, freedom and dust storms creates the ideal medium for convergent evolution to take place at a rapid pace; from many into The ONE.
"The Tangled Path" dyad concludes with this latter installment, "Conjunction" (subtitles include "Funk Getting Ready to Roll" and "Fuzzy Biscuit Bass for Black Rocky City".) It follows on the heels of "Loose Ends," which found our fuzzy band of traveling Burners tumbling through time and space on various personal pathways throughout 2008, on and off playa. "Conjunction" moves the story towards its conclusion as, in anticipation of Burning Man 2009, the same love-filled freedom-seeking souls begin to pull back together into something cohesive -- a dream of togetherness that won't fully be realized until we all hit the playa at the end of August 2009.
Narratives include the birth and evolution of Camp dBM with Edubious, Moontroll and Grapenuts, as well as as missives from the heart of Black Rock City from Hekter in 2008. Ramona and Scotty G. join the mob with their own insights. Artists in this audio journey include Bluetech, Major Lazer, Z-Trip, Alter Echo, Erykah Badu, Kid Cudi, Beastie Boys, TV on the Radio, Nas, Herbaliser, Boxcutter, Roots Manuva, Flying Louts, Jaydiohead, Moby, Random Rab, Massive Attack, Beats Antique, Mimosa, Bassnectar, MAd Professor, Michael Jackson, The Roots, Funkadelic and Nosaj Thing.
This progressive blend of the brand-spankin' new alongside old classics represents everything I have to say about music in Black Rock City in one long-ass, delirious, whacked-out, turn-your-ears-inside-in mix. I threw everything I had left into this, my last musical melange missive before Burning Man 2009 : Evolution.

The Tangled Path 1 : Loose Ends

This mix from DJ Edubious flows with that 4 am, pre-sunrise come-down vibe. It also sets a different tempo than any other Radio dBM mix -- this is one is strictly downtempo but still brings some glitch, house, breakbeat and organic vocal vibes to soothe you no matter yo' mood. Evolutionary Psychejuju

40-some days until the 2009 Burn, y'all > here's a mix from Radio DBM that is full of serious world-beat psychejuju to keep your preparations for the playa moving along on the good foot.
I was meditating on evolution while spinning out this set, particularly how species develop at different paces in different places around the planet. I love how one bird species, for example, will look and behave totally different from continent to continent, morphing form and behavior to match the physical ecosystem. But I also appreciate how all of life shares a common foundation, animated by the mysterious cosmic spark.
How does any of this apply to "Evolutionary Psychejuju"? Music is both universal as well as totally local. It begins with the heartbeat, and evolves in to a groove, a language every human can understand. I love how indigenous music is fitted to a particular place -- how the heat and aridity of Mali, the rhythm of the waves in Jamaica, the humid fecundity of Columbia have each inspired their own musical traditions. And I also love the ways in which some artists combine and blend those traditions in new and surprising ways. Musical evolution on a global scale. That's some of the thinking going on behind the scenes here at Radio dBM in the production of this here mix.

Edubious is back in cyberspace Dubcasting on Radio dBM! Theis Darwin's Furrowed Brow mix is a follow up to Darwin's Weird Beard - the second Burning Man Evolution-themed podcast from DJ Plyaduster. Starting to think ahead to Burning Man 2009 a bit -- can't help it. Time to start slowly crafting well-seasoned playlists of tracks that I want to bring down to the playa to share with the people. Here's a sneak peek in to some of my favorite musical goodies acquired over the past few months that are helping me to begin visualizing the next incarnation of Black Rock City. Burnal Equinox Evolution

As a result of 45,000+ Burners returning home from the playa and throwing themselves back into the Default World, the traffic for this website has shot through the roof. I think it has something to do with peoples being homesick for Black Rock City and searching around online for some way, any way, to keep the fires burning bright. Google, ePlaya, Tribe and many other websites are directing dusty, lost souls to our scrappy lil' website here. Happiest of all, these podcasts are getting downloaded dozens of times a day, finding new earholes to play with. Yee-haw!
We're also getting new friends coming in via the newspaper Reno Passport, which recently rated Destination Burning Man's podcast offerings as the "best Burning Man music" and wrote that "Reno Passport utilized this site for our complete ipod selection for the 2008 Burn!
