SyncroniciTEA House Mixx : Soundtrack For The New Paradigm

162-synchro

dBMcast 162: SyncroniciTEA House Mixx (aka "Biscuits for the Bass Badger")
Mixed by
DJ Playaduster + Kaya Rainface // July 2015

The SynchroniciTEA House is more than just a teahouse: it is a hub of creative community, engagement and exploration. It is a vessel that facilitates our crew’s desire to contribute to Burning Man & the emerging transformational festival culture. As a collective we are intentionally working to manifest the emerging New Paradigm. Each cup of tea we serve is infused with love consciousness and a seed of the high frequency shifts needed to support new ways of sustainable living on the planet.

This complex, multi-layered musical journey starts out in the bass badger's den as he leads you to a secret gathering at the Jedi Teahouse: deep, dark, growly, heady & a little bit unsettling. Eventually the badger leads us back in to the light to a divine dance party with all our favorite friends. Woven throughout are advanced oolong codes, tools for bass chakra therapy and tea advice from Get Found, Tea Andy and various brewmasters. Excited to play this one out late night/early morning at the SynchroniciTEA House this summer: Cascadia Arts & Music Festival, Beloved and Imagine!

iridescent geometry hypermind-sphere

154-iridescent

dBMcast #154 : iridescent geometry hypermind sphere
Mixed by DJ Playaduster, Fall 2014

a journey in to the underworld of your subconscious hypermind, with the Bass Badger leading the way, tunneling down deep, deeper and deeper still. This particular auditory journey is inspired by the Luminosity Gathering, held on Vancouver Island July 2014 — most of these musicians played there, weaving together a thick, psychedelic tapestry comprised of bass tones, moss, riversong, drumming, full moon light, community and the misty mumblings of Ents. This is medicine from sonic shamans: thick, goopey, subterranean, sometimes unsettling yet often revealing glistening iridescent sacred geometry and secrets of the hidden spheres. Not for beginners; proceed at your own risk.

track list: // Bogtrotter "Sonic Visions > Mystery Beneath" / Eurakaya "Stallions > Desert Sands" / iinaK "Wait Until Never" > OAKA + Goopsteppa "Currents" > Goopsteppa "Lighten Thy Heavy Load" (Sleepwreck remix) > aTtya "Visionary Nectar" / Erothyme "Imaginary Lines" / Kalya Scintilla "Veer La Lutz" (David Starfire remix) / Skytree "Star Forest" / Soulacybin "Synchronmystic" / Elephant Revival “Raven" (Wu Wei remix)

KRSHNA DUB: low-end devotions (Bhakti Bass IV)

153-krshna_opt (1)

Bhakti Bass IV: Mixed by Kaya Rainface * August/September 2014
The fourth in our popular series of mixes inspired by sacred Hindu deities and energies, with devotions, yoga, dance, chanting and singing praises set as the intentions ...

Like India herself, this mix is a vibrant, sensory-overloading mashup of different styles, from down n dirty bass to effervescent ambience, transcendent mantra chanting to gritty hip-hop rhymes. KRSHNA DUB is packed full of new music I've discovered this summer traveling to NW festies like Luminosity, Wanderlust and Beloved, and I'm loving exploring the fusion of sacred music with beats and bass from the dancefloor. I hope this music transports you (headphones strongly recommended!), inspires your own practice of devotion and prayer, and I give thanks and praise to all the visionary musicians, DJs and producers making this world a more beautiful place with the gift of their artistic vision. Namaste!

track list: Beatfarmer "Solace" / Sol Rising "Shri Ram Jai Ram" / DJ Drez "Royal Krishna" / Kirtaniyas "Krishna Govinda" feat Jai Uttal (DJ Drez remix) / Shaman's Dream "Istanbul Dubphonics" (Drumspyder remix) / Drumspyder "Ingwaz" / Skytree "Ganesha" / Biolumigen "Parasamgate" / David Starfire "Soma Dreams" / RORSCHACK "Allah!" / Astarius "Spirit Rap" + Anna (solo violin live from "Sonic Mediation Hike", Wanderlust Whistler July 2014) / The Polish Ambassador "Sri Gurvastakam" (ft. Kirtaniyas" / MC Yogi "Bhakti Beatbox" > "Krishna Dub" > "Ganesh is Fresh" / C.C. White "Hari Bo" (Live at Beloved 2014) / Kirtan Soul Revival Ft. Srikalogy & Luminahdi "Jaya Bolo Ram" (Srikalogy Remix) / Earthrise Soundsystem "Metaphysical Fitness" (feat. Srikalogy & Luminadi) / James Boag & Friends "Shanti OM" / DJ Drez "Nectar Drop"

Part two in Kaya Rainface's sacred bass trilogy named after holy Hindu deities, SHIVA DUB is spun from gossamer strings, temple drumming, ethereal bass bubbles, atmospheric voices & intentional flow.... we have no idea what this mutant electro-genre is called — represented here by Desert Dwellers, Drumspyder, Goopsteppa, Erothyme, Subaqueous, Skytree, NinjaMonk & others — but Rainface has discovered a rich, earthy vein of it and LOVES sharing it with fellow Bass Chakra Therapy devotees!

Skytree * Sonic Blossom Live Mix + Artist Profile ** EXCLUSIVO!

Skytree_Jason_Carncross_600_2827_Sonic_Blossom_Vol_1

Evan Snyder, aka Skytree, is a DJ / producer based in New York. He has been making electronic compositions for a decade, releasing nine albums including Knotwork, Wilder Forest, Windings of the Dragon Track, Sacred Singularity and a compilation of his music remixed by friends and fellow producers entitled Treemixes Volume One. Skytree's sound resists definition, as it blends together found sounds from urban and nature soundscapes, ethereal vocals, percussion and live instrumentation, dark synths and layers upon layers of winding, warping, luscious, low-end bass vibrations. His peers include other Sacred Bass purveyors including Kalya Scintilla, Kaminanda, Soulacybin, Erothyme, Space Jesus, Shwex, Whitebear, PhuturePrimitive, Aligning Minds and other visionary sound shamans who carefully craft bass music full of momentum, magic, mystery and intention.

His profile is on the rise as he has been playing a variety of transformational festivals and shows around the country, including Gratifly, Prism, Stilldream, 3DL, Autumnal Equinox at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, Surreal and tour support for The Polish Ambassador, Kaminanda and others.

Last October, Skytree played a genre-defining set at Sonic Blossom at Cervantes in Denver, Colorado.
Sacred Bass Sessions and Destination Burning Man are stoked to present an exclusive remixed and remastered version of the show, which includes a look ahead to his forthcoming 2014 release, Cirrus Sapiens. Inspired and intrigued by Evan's unique and moving sound, as well as the ideas and ethos that he broadcasts via his active social media presence, we engaged him in a lengthy interview to find out more about what is happening behind the music.

Enjoy the galaktivated ride bass space fans!

Sacred Bass Sessions: Who were some of your musical influences growing up, and what’s something about your musical background that most people might not know about you?

Skytree: Since I was young I’ve listened to a pretty wide range of stuff and had influences from a lot of genres, many of which I’ve incorporated into my music at different times. In one of our emails you asked about Jazz, folk music, and Led Zeppelin, which was funny because I love all three. When I was little we used to listen to a pretty eclectic range of stuff on long road trips, or on my dad’s turntable by the fire. Sometimes it would be classic country western (I’m talking dusty old time cowboy music), other times it’d be New Age ambient meditation albums, Motown or progressive psychedelic Celtic folk rock. Electronic and atmospheric sounds were always my favorite though. In my teens I really got into industrial, drum and bass, IDM, dub, and 90’s breakbeat.

Something I haven’t mentioned in past interviews is that I really loved singing from an early age (in addition to banging around on pots and pans). I was really active in choir during middle school and high school, as well as several musicals, and did pretty well quite a few times at state competitions, that kind of thing. The only trouble is that I’m not particularly good at it now to be honest! I haven’t practiced in ages, outside of doing aums at my shows, chanting or singing ridiculous songs in the morning. So, I’m kinda intimidated by putting my voice back into my music. I have a few times, but it’s been looped and warped to make it more of an abstract expression. Using my own vocals again regularly is something that has to happen at just the right time and way.

skytree-NES

SBS: What kind of films have had the greatest impact on you? What cultural leaders have influenced your thinking, from a childhood or adult perspective?

Skytree: This probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone, but 80’s kids fantasy/sci-fi movies like the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, the NeverEnding Story and the Explorers were a huge influence when I was a kid. Star Wars is of course pretty high up there as well. I’ve always loved movies that portray a dark strangeness in surreal beauty, using models and puppets over CGI…this aesthetic preference influences my music quite a bit actually.

Sacred Bass Sessions Vol 1 : Beyond the Dream Dome (for Sabbahji)

SacredB_3

dBMcast #136: Sacred Bass Sessions Vol. 1 : Beyond the Dream Dome (for Sabbahji)
Mixes by Kaya Rainface at the Purple Palace, November 2013

Destination Burning Man is excited to introduce
The Sacred Bass Sessions, a new series of intentional gatherings in Bellingham / Cascadia. Produced in partnership with Boogie Universal, these sessions are envisioned to be a series of transformational gatherings based around electronic music, community engagement and freedom of expression.

This musical mix by Kaya Rainface is a soundtrack for our vision of Sacred Bass Sessions, like a mission statement, or a map to the subconscious nooks and crannies of your mind. It features music from the West Coast's finest DJs, producers and sound shamans, artists we either have already booked to play an upcoming SBS or are actively pursuing. The low-end mystical flow is deeply inspired by Rainface's time spent in the DreamDome at Photosynthesis 6 this past summer.
Just before releasing this mix, we synthesized a spur-of-the-moment tribute to Cheb i Sabbah at the conclusion of the audio journey, in honor of his passing on November 7. As we listened to this mix that evening, we could clearly hear Sabbahji's influence in every track, his musical legacy informing the current crop of Sacred Bass DJs who carry forward his global-galactic grooves for the next leg of the journey.

track list // itom lab "Galactic Mantra" + The Bells of Sh'ang Sh'ung / Subaqueous "Invoking (eO remix) > In Spire > Cryptic (Michael Manahan remix) / Osiris "Immersion > Soul Diver" / Drumspyder "Caduceus" / itom lab "Brahmin" / Plantrae "Primary Decomposers" / GUDA "Riparian Toadschool" / eO "Lilt" / Kyrstyn Pixton "Dolphin's Pipe" / Cheb i Sabbah "Durga Puja" (Rainface Redub) / eO "Sussurus" / Bass Chakra Therapy outro //

Bass Harvest: Fresh Frequencies for Fall

134-Bass-Harvest

dBMcast #134 : Bass Harvest: Fresh Frequencies for Fall
DJ Playaduster Live from the Purple Palace, 10/3/13

Here's a hot-off-the-griddle dBMcast that blends together many of today's finest, fattest, freshest forward-leanin' tracks from the purveyors of Bass Love. These cuts are the latest of the latest, wildharvested hither & thither here at the end of summer by DJ Playaduster. He's able to tour the listener through a wide range of cutting-edge low-end whomp in a short span of time, his sonic processing skills honed by extensive Bass Chakra Therapy practice at transformational festivals around the Pacific Northwest this summer. The Symbiosis Gathering, in particular, expanded his musical horizons and inspired him to dig deeper in his ongoing bass investigations, and several of the performers he caught on lakeside stages over that weekend have worked their way in to the fabric of this exploration.

track list // James Blake "Holy Ghost" intro.... / saQi + The Polish Ambassador "Jarro" / Ott "Baby Robot" / Random Rab "Release"/ Sidecar Tommy "Vortex" / JUPIT3R "1226" / GRiZ "Heartbeat" / Phaeleh "Make You Feel" / ODESZA "Keep Her Close" / Break Science "Now You Want More"/ James Blake "Life Round Here" (saQi remix) / Laura Mvula "She" (Shlomo remix) / Claude VonStroke "The Bridge" / Nico Luminous "When I See You Shine"/ Blackstreet "No Diggety" (TPA remix) / Wildlight "Live Inside a Dream" (saQi remix) / saQi "Your Last Breath" / ODESZA "If There's Time" / Nightmares on Wax "Om Sweet H(Om)e / Shpongle "Tickling the Amygdala" / Timonkey "Sooner or Later" \\

This summer we tried something different and passed on Burning Man in exchange for a variety of different transformational festivals / electromusikfests / tribal bass gatherings in Washington and Oregon, choosing to disperse our time, attention and resources over several different fests instead of the Grandaddy of them all. The results were extremely positive, which sets up a hard decision that will need to be made sometime next year when scoping the next summer. This mix represents some of what we learned out there in the woods: the music we absorbed, dancefloor community we joined, freedom we cultivated and bliss we tasted.

Our Deep Listening, usually under enhanced circumstances, of artists like Grammatik, Russ Liquid, Pumpkin, Plantrae, Shpongle, Kalya Scintilla, Odesza, STS9, The Polish Ambassador, Emancipator, Sun:Monx, Dirtwire, Thriftworks, Freq Nasty, saQi, Phaeleh, Lotus, Sidecar Tommy, Jupit3r, Sugarpill, An-ten-ae — all in the space of a few moons, many for the first time ever — it really took our understanding and appreciation of Bass Chakra Therapy to a richer place, more free, more flowing, more abstract and psychedelic yet rooted down than ever before.

Huge gratitude to the Dream Dome on the edge of the Pacific Ocean at Photosynthesis, the upper "Clamshell" with a wicked Mt. Hood view at What the Festival?!, the late-night tent at Summer Meltdown next to the wild river and glacial-clad peaks and, with an extra-deep bow, all places at all times for Symbiosis Gathering. I learned so much from you and will continue to work on incorporating the best parts in to my day-to-day tenure on Planet Earth. To all the beautiful peoples from all over the world I met around campfires, on the beach, in front of the subwoofers, stage left, stage right, in the woods or on the road: Namaste.
The light inside me recognizes the light inside you. Dance on!

Jedi Teahouse

131-jedi-teahouse

dBMcast #131: Jedi Teahouse
Mixed by DJ Playaduster + Kaya Rainface, March-April 2013

Dark, brooding, mystical, epic, cinematic and full of coiled power ready to strike at a moment's notice: this is the sound of the Jedis, gathering together in a dimly-lit teahouse at the crossroads of two trails in the forest. Taking pause, in the candlelight they share stories of their adventures, make connections, trade secrets, hone their craft. Some are just in from a mission from the coast, others heading off towards the desert for the Great Convergence. For a spell, they can rest, revive and relax while sipping steaming cups of tea served by the mysterious tea master….

The soundtrack for the Jedi Teahouse is a result of a tag-team effort by DJs Playaduster and Kaya Rainface. PD sets the proceedings off with a smoldering blending of dubstep+ambient+chill to set things up proper and Kaya Rainface steps in around minute 28 for a rugged Sacred Bass pilgrimage to the Temple of Wobble. The vibes get deeper and darker past the 1 hour mark; experts only, please. Tread carefully and mind the Jedis.

By the conclusion of our tea session, the two DJs have melded their scents and sensibilities in to the One Groove. Bass Chakra Therapy at its finest. Vintage Jedi that even Master Yoda would approve of, humping it to the dance floor with his gnarled staff and riddles….

Track list // R.O. "Wood" / Shlomo "Out of Hand" / lokae "Siphon in the Sky" / Shipwrek "Bloom > Tangerines" / lokae "Slow Burn" / Russ Liquid "Formidable Signs > Furbish" / Mr. Squatch "The Squatch Expands Life" / Mumukshu "Wakefulness"/ Shwex "Forever Shining Soul" / Andreilien "Tafoni" / Whitebear "Auric Sight" / SIXIS "Cyclic Time" / Biolumigen "Akuna Marana" / Kalya Scintilla The Hathors" / The Polish Ambassador "Invisible Frontiers" / Sugarpill "You Got" / Mystral "Afterglow" / Shpongle "Tickling the Amygdala"

Photosynthesis : Into the Dream Dome

photosynthesis-dreamdome

dBMcast#129: Photosynthesis : Into the Dream Dome
Mixed by Kaya Rainface, August 2013

Here's some Jedi Goddess Ninja Healer Mermaid Wizard music, inspired by the Photosynthesis Festival held at Hobuck Beach in the far northwestern corner of Washington State July 19-21, 2013 and mixed up by Kaya Rainface for Destination Burning Man. This set evokes the sacred bass celebrations held in the Dream Dome, tapping in to dream states, dream flights, subconscious massages & third eye galaktivations, a space where fantasies morph in to altered realities….let this musical sacrament take you to the places where you access your subliminal sides & express your secret powers!

Jon Hopkins "Sun Harmonics"
Subaqueous "Invoking"
Kaminanda "Liquid Sunrise"
Plantrae "Taiga Bloom"
Drumpyder remixes "Shiva Ntaraj > Bodhi Mandala" (Desert Dwellers)
Aligning Minds "In the Wake of Forever"
Osiris "Immersion > Sole Diver"
Kalpatura Tree "Naked Soul Dub"
Kalya Scintilla "From Day to Night and Back Again"
Elephant Revival "The Raven Song"
Russ Liquid "New Beginnings"

Photosynthesis began with a ritual. An elder from the Makah tribe—we were holding our gathering on their tribal lands, at their invitation—said prayers in his native tongue and then blessed the ground we would dance upon all weekend by sprinkling white puffs of eagle down from his medicine bag. It was an offering that galaktivated the Dream Dome. The line-up of DJs—combined with the visionary artists, VJs, tea servers, dancers and many wild, organic shrines—created a deep vibe that persisted over three long nights of ritual and dancing. The swollen moon waxed in the heavens above, ravens and eagles flew overhead and the hypnotic roar of the Pacific Ocean backdropped everything.

Photosyn-3
Plantrae playing violin and dropping botanical beats in the Dream Dome

In this mix, Jon Hopkins gives the opening invocation with "Sun Harmonics," appropriate for Photosynthesizers beneath a grey blanket of sea fog and salty mist. The rest of the artists contribute to the musical journey in more or less the order they performed in the Dream Dome over the weekend: amazing contributions from (mostly) West Coast/Pacific Northwest producers Subaqueous, Kaminanda, Plantrae, Drumspyder, Aligning Minds, Osiris, Kalpatura Tree and Kalya Scintilla. Elephant Revival shares a closing prayer with "Raven Song" and, as we drift off from the Dream Dome at dawn, the sounds of Russ Liquid coming from the Mandala Dome carry us home to our tents in the trees….

I should note that Hopkins and Elephant Revival did not play at Photosynthesis, but their opening and closing mantras to the mix are in alignment with the Dream Dome vibe and we're happy to have them!

Photosyn-6
Visionary art in the Dream Dome

The vocals are Makah elders speaking in their indigenous language, including a whaling chant. They are incorporated in Kaya Rainface's mix in the spirit of respect for their culture and gratitude for letting us gather to dance, celebrate, commune and heal on their ancestral land. You'll also hear elements of the land: waves crashing, birds calling, winds blowing…it was an overcast and somewhat chilly weekend, though we were spared rain, and the chill brought us closer together around campfires.

Photosyn-7
Kalya Scintilla closes the weekend ritual Sunday night in the Dream Dome

Gratitude. We are grateful to the DJs, artists, dancers, temple builders and festival organizers. See you back at Hobuck next year!

Mixed by DJ Playaduster at 4th Korner Soundsystems, January 2013

Another installment in the celebrated Whomp Massive series--inspired low-end collages for your personal Bass Chakra Therapy practice. This one starts slow and languid, taking its time before Nico Luminous starts getting rowdy with "Swamp Gate" and we achieve Whomp Massive lift-off at precisely minute 17:46. The rest is bass gravy……

Tracklist:

The Candyman "Molecular Modifications"
NiT GriT "Dimethyltryptamine"

Mus Sik "Eternal Smile"
Kaminanda "Time Travellers"
ChrisB. "Eye in the Sky > Triangular Objects"
Gramatik "Bluestep"
Michael Menert "Eventide" (edit)

ps. one of my most vivid, blissful memories of Burning Man 2012 was swinging freely on an oversized swing set behind the DJ stand at False Prophet's annual Tuesday Night party on the Esplanade. The sense of weightlessness, the backdrop of innumerable stars against the inky black eternity of sky, the empathic bass and blinky lights and love and dust….After the Polish Ambassador's playa debut, ChrisB took the party to the next level with his confident bass-slinging of daring low-end frequencies to a very supportive crowd of movers & groovers…..perfect!

Threshold (Open Me Slowly)

117-threshold

Mixed by DJ Playaduster, December 2012

Here's one more dBMcast for 2012 and the first to actually feature some of the soundstick recordings captured at Burning Man 2012. dBMcast #117 features Moontroll of Get Found reporting from the road to Gerlach, and from the exciting moment when one's vehicles leaves pavement and hits the playa, and from the line to get in to the city when a whiteout dust storm stopped all movement. Moontroll is geared towards that once-a-year passage through the Portal to the other side, and his excitement is palpable. Ride shotgun with him as he approaches the Threshold to another world of magic and mystery, a journey with an undulating soundtrack of forward-leaning bass music that touches on electroboogie, dubstep, ambient, world beat, breaks and other styles.

As this mix is about thresholds, portals, journeys and crossings, you'll also hear contributions from Terrence McKenna speaking on UFOs and spirit molecules and a science report on recent NASA searches for elusive portals that spontaneously open and close in the Earth's magnetosphere.

Track list:
Break Science "Forest of Illumination"
Elliott Lipp "The Sunset"
Michael Menert "Take All You Want"
Kaminanda "
The Portal"
Sugarpill "Bring It Back"
eDIT "Mildew"
Rena Jones "

Nicholas Jaar "Colomb"
DJ/rupture "
Save from the Flames All That Yet Remains"

Beautiful World

dBMcast #116: Beautiful World
Mixed by
Kaya Rainface, November 2012

Music by The Polish Ambassador * Stephan Jacobs * Gladkill * Emancipator * Sugarpill * Michael Meneirt * SBTRKT * Paper Diamond * Russ Liquid * Andreilien * JoBOT * Bassnectar.

"Its a beautiful world we're livin' in…"

With this simple phrase repeated over and over like a mantra on the title track from Stephan Jacob's new album, DJ Kaya Rainface heard the possibility of a new mix celebrating the ephemeral glory of being alive on Planet Earth here at the end of the Mayan calendar.

"What happens after 12/21/12? Nobody knows! Will our world look different the next morning? Or will the changes all take place inside of us?" Rainface wondered in a recent conversation over steamy oolong tea. "Whatever goes down, 12/21/12 provides all of us a centering of attention, a cosmic quickening, and a chance to refocus our intention. I felt the call to create a mix that celebrated how fortunate we all are to be here, in this place, at this time. Beautiful world for sure!"

Elements that hold this musical journey together include 1.) heavy participation from the
Headtron crew in California, including Sugarpill, Gladkill, Andreilien, Stephan Jacobs, Russ Liquid and JoBOT, 2.) an exploration of tracks that use the human voice in interesting ways: looping, mutating, glitching out, bending and folding and chopping singers' voices until they are barely recognizable as human, becoming instruments instead, disembodied androids offering fractured vespers, and 3.) an interconnected mosaic of midtempo tracks that marry intergalactic space travel, melodic beauty and deep, nutrient-rich bass whompage.

The Beautiful World Choir includes voices from Sade, Jay-Z, Yukimi Nagano, Linval Thompson and the glorious wispy vocals of Thao Nguyen on Emancipator's track "When I Go," which is presented here in a mashup of the original with the Michael Menert remix.

"The Headtron tribe is putting out some of the most interesting bass music happening today. They are way out there on the leading edge of electronic music, creating pretty, emotional music that also slays you with bass" Rainface mused, "I love how they are each distinct artists yet sharing a common aesthetic in making music. Putting them together in a mix made it really easy for me to keep the flow moving forward. It developed very organically. The mix knew what it wanted to be and I just helped facilitate its manifestation!"

Lost Track of Time

dBMcast #114: Lost Track of Time (320 kbps)
Mixed by
DJ Playaduster, October 2012

More often than not, DJ Playaduster's dBMcasts choose a musical genre and explore the various electronic permutations of that vibe over an hour-and-a-half. In this new mix, the genres are blended, one flowing in to the next, an undulating river of blending sounds and spirits. This is a sonic exploration that goes off the map, a journey through progressive grooves and forward-leaning beats: Bass Chakra Therapy alongside deep house, Gypsy whomp vs. ambient spacestep, fractured glitchhop rubbing up against pop music remixes. Playaduster was guided by intuition on this excursion and the results are exquisitely interesting, both for a headphones chill-out session or a dance floor adventure.

We might also note that at the heart of this mix is a long cut from Pachanga Boys entitled "Time" — a bit of an unusual choice for DJ Playaduster. This was the beat that Robot Heart
often played to meet and greet the first rays of the rising sun out on the playa, so it is packed with meaning and memory for many of us RH junkies at Burning Man 2012!

Other artists include Flying Lotus * Ricardo Villalobos * Nico Luminouos * Jupit3r * SBTRKT * Radiohead * Four Tet * The Polish Ambassador * Sugarpill * Nicholas Jaar * GRiZ * Beats Antique * Filastine * JoBOT //

What the Mixtape?! (Side Two)

Greetings friends near and far, met and unmet, DJ Playaduster here representing Destination Burning Man with Side Two of What the Mixtape?!

Get yourself ready for a hour long mix of electronic music based on DJs and producers who played at
What the Festival?! in Oregon the last weekend of July 2012. This was the best festival my PNW Get Found crew and I have ever experienced off the playa and the rush of inspiration we felt in the White River canyon has carried over in to this 2 side music mix tape project. From the environment to the art to the people to the lighting to the vibes to the splash pool and ESPECIALLY to the expertly curated schedule of to-notch DJs, the organizers did it right. We can't thank them enough for all the special touches, large and small.

We're going to explore some of the more experimental bass frequencies that What the Festival offered, including Sepalcure, Scuba and Sinjin Hawke, taste some acid crunk from Low Ryderz, get soothed with a long set from Emancipator and dabble in some forward-leaning low-end wavelengths from Gladkill, Bluetech, PhuturePrimitive and Sugarpill.

What the Mixtape?! (Side One)

I’m just back from the first-ever What the Festival?! in the White River Canyon of Oregon and am so incredibly inspired by what went down there: an eclectic roster of top-shelf DJ talent dropping their jams through Function One soundsystems, the gorgeous landscape accentuated by art and light installations, lots of chill spaces full of kind and creative people, good food, minimal security and hilarious pool parties during the heat of the day – I can’t say enough good things about this gathering and the team that put it on. Big ups to the Zanzibar crew for pulling this off so flawlessly, and to my own Get Found family for representing the love.

Side one of What the Mixxtape?! features some of the artists I saw and danced my ass off to, with a focus on the glitch-hop, dubstep, acid crunk, whomp and other soundz from the heavier end of the Bass Chakra spectrum, including Bonobo, Beats Antique, GRiZ, Gladkill, Ana Sia, MartyParty, Sugarpill, EPROM and Paper Diamond. Next week I’ll put out Side 2 with sounds trending house, ambient, experimental and sacred bass.

With 29 days until the Man burns, fevered excitement is in the air. I hope this What the Mixxtape?!, along with other recent episodes like
Desert Dreamers and Shimmer, provide you the ultimate soundtrack for your playa preparations.

Desert Dreamers : An Indo-African Alchemy Dub Experience

Mixed by DJ Playaduster & Kaya Rainface in July 2012
and shared with humility in "earthy family style."

Prepare yourself for an intergalactic soundwave excursion to the Indian subcontinent and choice African destinations with DJs Playaduster and Kaya Rainface. Originally inspired by my discovery of the amazing Desert Dwellers remix project and the new Dirtwire project from Beats Antique, this musical journey invokes caravans in the desert, mystical night wanderings, starlight, throngs of pilgrims seeking visions on the playa, uttered prayers and whispered secrets, meditation, tribal gatherings, tea ceremonies, transcendent dancing, spices and scents. With plenty of earthy bass tones to ground our seekings, the mix floats towards the heavens on the wings of sitar, violin, cello, tabla, kamel ngoini and voice.

Featuring Desert Dwellers * Drumspyder * Filastine * Cheb i Sabbah * Bassnectar * Dirtwire * Kaminanda * Miles Davis * Kurt Rosenwinkel * Seun Kuti * Four Tet * Tinariwen * Issa Bagayoyo * Adham Shaikh * Eastern Sun * The Beatles * Yo- Yo Ma * Random Rab * Kalya Scintilla * Beats Antique * Nicolas Jaar * Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan * Massive Attack * Bobby McFerrin * Sacred System * TJ Rehmi * Mari Boine * Future Prophecies.

Bass Meditations

With no more delay I offer 'Bass Meditations' for the dBM massive.  This is the mix formerly known as 'Kung Fu Jedi II'  However since I don't have any yoda or kung fu master vocal samples, I didn't feel it was deserving of that title.  No vocal samples here, just a mix of
sacred bass music

This mix drops into the sacred bass realm and was designed as a soundtrack to your Practice.  Find your flow with Kaminanda, Phuture Primative, Kayla Scintilla, Tipper, Nanda, Thriftworks and The Human Experience.  This mix is a sampling of some of the freshest, most deeply studied bass chakra masters.

Track List:

Kaminanda - 'Conscious Droplets'
Phuture Primative - Center of Gravity
Kaminanda - The Yum Factor
Russ Liquid - VGA
The Human Experience - Entheos
Tipper - Bubble Control > Hourglass Infringment
Thriftworks - Pillow In the Woods > Greenie Beanies
Nanda - Cry of the Ages
Kayla Scintilla - Rises In The East
Kaminanda - Temple of De'Light
Kayla Scintilla - Way of the Tarrot
Phuture Primative - Ripple Effect

Subconscious Shapeshifter Swarm

A subsonic sacred bass exploration with
DJ Playaduster channeling a night at Burning Man. Imagine traveling between several different soundscapes late one night in Black Rock City: your first stop features whomp-fusion, glitch-hop and luscious low-end bass jamz to start the party. But then you wander a couple doors down the Esplanade to discover a camp spinning psychedelic progressive house and you get lost there for what seems like an eternity of booty-shaking. Robot Heart rolls by and draws you deeper out in to the open playa for a serving of dark and dubby disco-trance music. Mmmmmmm, feels so good! Right about the moment you suspect that you are going to turn in to a puddle of goo from dancing to such elastic, nerfy beats, a random art car -- perhaps a golf cart made up as a glowfish, or a pulsating fuzzy UFO -- drives by blaring Hendrix and the rawness and realness of his guitar pulls you back to corporeal form. Out at the trash fence, you stumble upon Tipper spinning an early morning set full of neuron-splintering sounds and feel your DNA literally being reprogrammed…. almost sunrise!

All of these various styles and genre-mutations sound s
o good to your ears -- they move your body hypnotically, swarm your subsconscious with shapeshifters and create an epic night of dancing beneath the broad dome of stars with the beautiful freaks of BRC!

Featuring Kaminanda / David Starfire / Beats Antique / ill.gates / Glitch Mob / R/D / Bassnecter / Osunlande / Tanner Ross / Round Three / Kassem Mosse / Behrouz / Jimi Hendrix (?!?) / Tipper/ more...

Bass Cadet (It's a Family Affair)

As the Burnal Equinox passes us by, we slip and slide our way down the slope towards another trip to Black Rock City. Burning Man 2011 begins to infiltrate my daily thoughts as I consider what Rites of Passage will rise up to meet me and my merry band of Get Foundlings. Here's a heavy-duty blend of bass music -- dubstep, whomp, glitch-hop, lazer -- to wake us out of our winter slumber and slap us silly in to the spring. This is not your mama's bass -- get ready to be aurally spanked! This is the time of year for cleansing and new growth, and this mix is designed to knock the moss off of your bass chakras as we stumble towards the playa, alone and together.

Grace in Bass

Cleaning out the vaults of 2010 to make space for new freshness in 2011, I came across this neglected mix that hadn't been posted yet. Deep in the wintertime of 2010, working through some personal struggles in my isolated zendo on an island in Washington State, I began exploring a new system of healing: Bass Chakra Therapy. Subwoofers or high-quality headphones are required; intoxicants optional but recommended.

"Grace in Bass" is the cosmic cousin of "
Subsonic Sonata," a mix released last May. I mixed both from a common playlist that gathered together tracks that exemplified the healing qualities of bass in its many mysterious and mystical forms. Both mixes have a meditative quality to them and bass elements that are thick, sinuous, mostly gentle, inquisitive and with unique bass chakra massaging qualities.

Artists includes Timonkey * Heyoka * Vibesquad * Boxcutter * Mike Monday * Shackleton * Zero 7 * Luke Vibbert * Rusko * Clubroot * Four Tet * Ooah * Nosaj Thing * The Field. Artwork by Android Jones.

"Grace in Bass" and "Subsonic Sonata" both got me through some really dark, isolated days of winter. I hope they do some good work for you too.

Subsonic Sonata

This one's dedicated to the devastating beat creator......

How does this latest mix from DJ Playaduster fit in with his recently-unleashed
Bass Chakra Therapy / Wobble Chronicles series?

It is still unclear how this particularly tasty blend of bass-positive music fits in with
alla that chakra therapy bidness and we are open to theorizing from dedicated listeners. But this much we know: there is still the continuity of serious down-low subwoofer-friendly basshead music mixed into a flowing river of soulful low-end revelry. One difference is that this poem is less dependent on Whomp and Glitch and other Left Coast bass-hop tomfoolery.

Instead, it moves across varying landscapes of moody, swirling, dense grooves and emotions. BASS is the only constant, the liturgy speaking to the recesses of your primal animal soul.

Subsonic Sonata features Luke Vibert / Shackleton / Fever Ray / Bluetech / Nosaj Thing / Boxcutter / Zomby / Rustie / Matt Shadetek / Mimosa / Noah D. Roomate / Roots Manuva / Coldcut / Hedfunk / Four Tet / Burial / Ana Sia / ill.Gates / Heyoka / Bassnectar / Tipper and / The Field \\.

WHOMP MASSIVE

A smokin' mix of epic booty bangers from the World of Whomp. These are the grooves that light my fuse these days. All killer, no filler. Bumpin all night. A therapeutic bath of bass for proper chakra therapy upgrades. etc etc etc

This mix tape features fresh tracks, some barely a week old, from artists including // Mimosa / Ooah / R/D / Adam Freeland / An-ten-ae / Bassnectar / ill.Gates / Beats Antique / Heyoka / Bonobo / The xx / Nosaj Thing / MartyParty / PantyRaid / Fever Ray / Pretty Lights (and more Beats and Nectar at the end) \\. This is the third installment in DJ Playaduster's Wobble Chronicles project, providing a soundtrack for personal Bass Chakra Therapy explorations and practices. Whompadelic * Bass Chakra Therapy (Intermediate)

Another Bass Chakra Thearpy session from DJ Playaduster -- this time an intermediate level mix for those who have already absorbed the teachings found within the first introductory BCT session.

Vocals woven in to this session include soundstick recordings from the Halloween/Spiderball experience in San Francisco, the Get Found reunion at the Samish Island Zendo and the night Team Love danced all night in puddles to DJs on the top of the old Rainier Brewery in Seattle. This episode, in other words, tracks the post-playa adventures of our furry, fuzzy family up and down the Pacific Coast in the waning months of 2009.

Bass Chakra Therapy (Introductory)

This mix is an overview of the electronik sounds I am currently filling my head with, including several DJs I learned about for the first time at Burning Man 2009. Heavy San Francisco emphasis here, naturally, as that is where my favorite grooves are coming from these days. Special guests include Maketa, Scotty G. and Suga Cubed, recorded both in Black Rock City and on the road to home post-Burn, decompressing and reorienting from the Best Burn Ever. This is one of my favorite mixes I've ever spun out -- I really dig the flow between tracks and between sections and the sacred womp of the bass is cleansing to my soul. Hope you dig it too.
